Frequently Asked Questions

What actually IS coaching?

Coaching is a tool that helps you to create clarity, raise self-awareness, and realise the potential within yourself. As your coach, I’ll help you to really understand your motivations and your blockers, and inspire you to make sustainable change.

Coaching is NOT about me giving you suggestions or advice – that’s what mentoring and counselling are for. You’ll always be the one driving the car – I’ll be your co-driver who helps you find the best route to where you’re headed, instead of just letting you take the short cut!

What happens in an average coaching session?

A coaching session is essentially a loosely structured but not over-formal conversation between the two of us. Different coaches use different ‘models’ to provide that structure, and I draw on a number of approaches to suit my clients’ challenges, styles and ambitions.

In every model, we’ll look at what you want to achieve or change, where you’re at right now, and your options for the next step. I’ll ask you questions, listen to what you’re saying (and not saying!), challenge your limiting beliefs and inspire you to take action.

You say you work with people in the creative and technology sectors – what if that’s not me?

Not to worry – if you like what you see here and you’re interested in working with me then get in touch anyway. I’m focussing on those sectors because that’s where I’ve spent all my career but I do have clients outside of that too.

Will I have to do anything outside of sessions?

I’ll send brief pre-session reflection exercises which are super useful to add value to your session but aren’t compulsory. If you’d be interested in doing additional self-development exercises between our sessions (or need a little extra accountability!) then that’s an option too.

How many coaching sessions will I need?

It depends what you want to achieve. I provide coaching in packages of at least 6 sessions. If you’re working on one simple goal then one package may be enough, but if you’d like to keep levelling up and work with me for longer then we can do that too.

What should I expect from you as my coach?

I work to the Association for Coaching’s Code of Ethics so you can expect high professional standards and a commitment to your wellbeing and growth throughout. I create an inclusive, respectful, compassionate and non-judgemental space for you to explore.

What do you need from me?

Curiosity, a willingness to share and question your own beliefs, and (of course!) a goal or aspiration that you’d like to work towards. You’ll also need to be accountable for actioning your plans too – I can help you program the satnav but you’re the one behind the wheel!

Will anyone else know what we talk about?

A coaching session is completely confidential as per the Code of Ethics. Only in extreme circumstances will this confidence be breached (such as the intent to cause harm to yourself or others, or criminal acts).
